Scope and Objectives of the Journal

ACADEMIA. Boletín de la Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando (ISSN: 0567-560X; eISSN: 2530-1551) is a scientific journal, published annually in both print and online formats, featuring original articles related to the arts in their broadest sense, with particular emphasis on topics connected to the Spanish academic world. The new period of this publication began in 1951, and its history can be consulted at: http://realacademiabellasartessanfernando.com/assets/docs/boletines/2005.pdf

ACADEMIA is a specialized scientific journal published by the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando and is funded exclusively by the Academy.

Journal Bodies

The journal Academia. Boletín de la Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando has an editorial team consisting of an Editor-in-Chief, an Editorial Board, and an International Scientific Committee.

The Journal’s management is composed of the Editor-in-Chief and the Editorial Secretary and is appointed by the Archive-Library and Publications Committee of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando.

The Editorial Board is made up of experts of recognized standing, at least one-third of whom are external to the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, and 40% of whom are women, thus meeting gender parity requirements. All members are clearly identified with their institutional affiliations.

The Scientific Committee is composed of professors and experts specialized in the international field of Art History. At the request of the Journal’s management, they may assist and advise on the publication of submitted manuscripts and propose reviewers according to the subject matter addressed.

Peer Review Process

The Editorial Board will ensure, through the established procedure, that the works published in the journal have been evaluated by at least two specialists in the field. It will also ensure that the review process is conducted in a fair and impartial manner.

Manuscripts submitted for evaluation will be treated confidentially by all those involved in the review process, from the Editorial Board to the peer reviewers.

The Editorial Board will expressly acknowledge the contribution of those specialists who have collaborated in the review and evaluation of articles submitted for publication in the journal. With their consent, their names will be made public every three years. If any review does not meet the minimum standards required in an academic journal, that reviewer will not be considered for future collaborations. Recognition, as well as the continuation of the reviewer relationship, will be independent of the recommendation made by the reviewer, whose work will be carried out entirely free from pressure and whose opinion will be respected regardless of the outcome.

Authors’ Responsibilities

Texts submitted for publication must be the result of original and unpublished research. They must include the data obtained and used, as well as an objective discussion of their results. Sufficient information must be provided so that any specialist can replicate the research and confirm or refute the interpretations presented in the work.

Authors must also expressly state that the manuscript has not been previously submitted, nor is it simultaneously under consideration, for evaluation or publication in another journal or publication. This must be accompanied by a brief note (two lines) indicating the novelty of the contribution for evaluation purposes.

Articles must comply with the guidelines available on the website of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando:

http://realacademiabellasartessanfernando.com/es/archivo-biblioteca/publicaciones/boletin

Authors must be aware of and refrain from engaging in scientific misconduct or violating publication ethics.

Authors must present their results clearly, honestly, and without falsification or inappropriate data manipulation.

Authors must ensure that the data and results presented in the work are original and have not been copied, fabricated, distorted, or manipulated.

Plagiarism in all its forms, multiple or redundant publication, as well as the fabrication or manipulation of data, constitute serious ethical breaches and are considered scientific fraud.

Authors must provide proper authorship and acknowledgment. They must refrain from deliberately misrepresenting a scientist’s relationship to the published work. All authors must have made a significant contribution to the research.

Authors must inform the editor when they have a direct or indirect conflict of interest with editors, members of the editorial team, or the international scientific committee.

No significant part of the article shall have been previously published, either as an article or a chapter, nor shall it be under consideration for publication elsewhere.

When an author discovers a serious error in their work, they are obliged to notify the journal as soon as possible in order to correct, withdraw, retract, or publish an erratum.

If a potential error is detected by any member of the Editorial Board, the author is obliged to demonstrate that their work is correct.

Authors are required, for all submitted materials, to participate in a peer review process.

Editors’ Responsibilities

The Editorial Team will act impartially in managing submissions and must respect the intellectual independence of authors, who have the right of reply in the event of a negative evaluation.

Members of the Editorial Team are obliged to maintain confidentiality regarding submitted texts and their content until they have been accepted for publication. Only then may the title and authorship be disclosed.

Likewise, no member of the Editorial Board may use data, arguments, or interpretations contained in unpublished works for their own research without the express written consent of the author(s).

Publication Decision

All contributions will initially be evaluated by the Editorial Board, which is solely responsible for selecting, processing, and deciding which submitted articles meet the journal’s editorial objectives and may therefore be published. Each manuscript deemed suitable is sent to two independent reviewers, experts in their field, capable of evaluating the specific qualities of the work. The editor is responsible for the final decision on whether the manuscript is accepted or rejected.

The decision to publish an article will always be based on its importance to researchers, professionals, and potential readers. Editors must make impartial decisions regardless of commercial considerations.

Editors who make final decisions on manuscripts must recuse themselves from editorial decisions if they have conflicts of interest or relationships that could pose potential problems regarding the manuscripts under consideration. Responsibility for the final decision regarding publication will be assigned to an editor with no conflict of interest.

Conflict of Interest

The Journal declines any responsibility for possible conflicts arising from the authorship of the works published therein.

Intellectual Property

The originals of the journal Academia, published in print and electronic versions, are the property of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, and the source must be cited in any partial or full reproduction.

Authors grant the publisher a royalty-free right to exploit and sublicense the work worldwide, in all forms and media of expression, now known or developed in the future, for educational and academic purposes.

However, authors retain the right to present, display, distribute, develop, and publish their work to advance their scientific careers, provided that the original publication in the journal Academia. Boletín de la Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando is duly acknowledged.

Academia. Boletín de la Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando is an open access journal, and its content may be freely used, read, downloaded, and distributed in any medium for non-commercial purposes without prior authorization from the publisher or the authors. In all cases, the source and the author of the original publication must be cited, and any changes made must be clearly indicated, without suggesting in any way that they are endorsed by the publisher or the authors.
