A graffito on the minaret of the Koutoubia

Abstract

This article brings to light and investigates a graffito found in the Marrakech tower, the first minaret “of first-rate Almohad carving”; data collection and analysis were funded by Spain’s State Programme for Knowledge Generation and Scientific and Technological Reinforcement (Programa Estatal de Generación de Conocimiento y Fortalecimiento Científico y Tecnológico) of the R&D system of Spain’s Ministry of Science and Innovation (Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación) through the project Atlas of Almohad Architecture (Atlas de Arquitectura Almohade: ATARAL), PID2019-111644GB-I00, currently underway. Its first results came out on the internet in February 2022.
