Josep Puiggarí i Llobet (1821–1903), best known for his studies on historical dress, was also one of the first historians of Catalan art. His lifelong project was a monumental work on costume titled Estudios de Indumentaria Española, which remains largely unpublished and is now preserved at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid. This paper traces the vicissitudes of this material while exploring and presenting its textual and visual content.
